Character Description
Chyem, often shortened to Chy, is a female humanoid-mutant hybrid from Poland. Known by survivors under names such as the Leshen, Widmo, Rogata, and Potwór, she herself eventually accepts Ciemność -darkness - as her identity. Her skin is a dull semi-gloss black, her head fused with a deer skull turned living bone, her eyes glow faintly red from radioactive isotopes, and her long mutated tail gives her a predatory silhouette. With antlers in full growth, she stands exactly seven feet tall, her stance hunched and animalistic, more like a beast waiting to spring than a human standing at rest.
Species Origin
Chy was not engineered in a laboratory or designed as a weapon. She was born to ordinary Polish parents in a small town during an era of heightened militarization. When a Soviet tactical warhead malfunctioned and vented fissile material near her home, her family fled into a civil defense bunker. Her parents died of radiation sickness when she was still a child, leaving her to survive alone. Constant radiation exposure during her formative years warped her body, fusing the deer skull she had forced onto her head into a permanent cranial plate and altering her skin, bones, and reproductive biology.
Biology
Chy’s frame is lean and muscular, standing seven feet tall with her antlers included. Her posture is bent forward, balanced more like a predator than a civilian. Her skin is semi-gloss black from radiation-driven hypermelanization fused with keratin, making it abrasion-resistant and capable of absorbing low-caliber gunfire.
Her skull is fused with the deer skull she wore as a child, vascularized into her bone structure and sprouting antlers that shed and regrow seasonally. These antlers are unnaturally dense, able to resist direct impacts and melee strikes. Her eyes emit a faint red luminescence caused by isotopes trapped in the corneas, giving her a spectral gaze in the dark. A long atavistic tail extends behind her, granting balance and body-language expression.
Her reproductive system shows cervid influence. She possesses cervine-shaped external labia with functional internal anatomy, but her ovarian cycle is damaged by radiation. The cycles that remain are irregular and violent, inducing periods of heightened aggression and libido that overwhelm her otherwise cautious temperament. Outside these phases she is intelligent, wary, and deliberate. She is completely immune to radiation, able to inhabit and scavenge places others cannot.
History
Chy was born in the 2030s into a Poland already bracing for war. Her family’s bunker sheltered her until her parents succumbed to radiation when she was seven or eight. She remained alone, raising herself with the materials her parents left behind. She grew up on Polish fantasy novels, civilian survival manuals, guerilla warfare texts, medical references, and technical instructions for maintaining generators and filtration systems. These books gave her literacy and a framework for survival, even as isolation distorted her social development.
Her adolescence saw her body twisted by constant radiation. Her skin blackened, her tail lengthened, her skull fused and sprouted antlers. Puberty brought irregular hormonal cycles that triggered dangerous surges of anger and desire. She hid from scavengers, maintaining the bunker and rereading her small library until it fell to pieces. Her language remained frozen at a child’s fluency, fragmented but articulate enough to whisper when she chose to.
By her twenties she began venturing farther from her town. She discovered a nearby military headquarters saturated by another damaged warhead. Immune to the radiation, she scavenged it for untouched supplies, weapons, and technical documents. Eventually she relocated entirely, bringing her belongings to the irradiated base. There she became a whispered legend. When scavengers entered in NBC gear, she drove them off. During one cycle she killed a man by goring him with her antlers and, overtaken by fertility-driven hunger, consumed him. Others fled and spread the tale, cementing her reputation as the Leshen. Survivors insisted she was a secret project born of the military ruins, though the truth was much simpler.
By the 2080s and 2090s she was fully mature, a figure rooted in postwar Poland’s irradiated forests and bases. She lived as a scavenger, hunter, and quiet custodian of her territory, sealing herself away whenever caravans passed through. Her myth was larger than her reality, but her reality was enough: an intelligent, scarred survivor with the form of a monster.
Personality
Chy is not feral except during her hormonal cycles. Most of the time she is thoughtful, careful, and deliberate, though her speech is halting and her voice barely more than a whisper. She is highly territorial and deeply afraid of leaving the ruins that have defined her entire life. Her caution is rooted in the knowledge that others see her as a monster and a threat. She is capable of intelligence, problem-solving, and empathy, though these are rarely seen by outsiders.
Strengths and Abilities
Chy’s greatest asset is her agility, which far exceeds human norms. Her musculature is powerful though lean, granting her speed and precision in close quarters. Her semi-gloss black skin is resistant to abrasions, cuts, and small-caliber rounds. Her fused skull and antlers are both weapons and armor, able to deflect blows and gore opponents. She is completely immune to radiation and has adapted to live indefinitely in lethal zones. Her self-taught technical knowledge lets her repair generators, maintain air systems, and use scavenged firearms with competence.
Equipment and Weapons
Chy scavenges serviceable AK-47s and AR-15s from abandoned depots. Though not an expert, she can field-strip and fire them competently thanks to manuals and trial. Her preferred weapon is a knife, which she wields with precision and speed. After meeting a red and black soldier, and a cloaked swordsman, she began to emulate their styles with plate carriers and weaponry, fashioning a very effective armor out of spare UHWMPE pieces she sewed together with the skills she learned as a child, and needles made from her antler splinters.
Weaknesses and Faults
Chy is socially stunted, with limited language and fragile trust. Her cycles overwhelm her into unpredictable states of rage and libido, making her violent and difficult to control. While her blackened skin and bone density provide durability, she remains vulnerable to high-caliber weapons, explosives, and sustained concentrated fire. Her lean build leaves her less durable than engineered transhumans. Psychologically, she is haunted by loneliness and bound by fear of leaving her ruins, tethered to the stories and manuals that raised her.
